During the fall semester of 1999, the School of Information and Library Studies merged with the Department of Communication to form the School of Information Studies. Then in 2001 the School of Information Studies changed its name to the School of Informatics (RG 50). In 2006 the school was reorganized administrable. The Department of Communication went to the College of Arts and Sciences. The Department of Library and Information Studies went to the School of Education.
