Delivery+: Frequently Asked Questions


What is Delivery+?

Delivery+ is a free delivery service for UB faculty, staff and students.

Use the Everything Search to request library materials at any UB library, any SUNY library or from libraries anywhere in the world.

UB students can choose to pick up materials at Abbott, Lockwood, or Law (Law students only) libraries, or choose to have items delivered to their home address.

Faculty and staff can choose to pick up materials at Abbott, Lockwood, or Law (Law faculty/staff only) libraries; delivered to their Office or their home address.

Items picked up at the libraries will need to be checked out via the UB Libraries app or the self-check kiosk. Staff cannot check out materials from the service desks.

Articles and chapters are delivered electronically to your Delivery+ account.


Who can use Delivery+?

All UB Faculty, Staff and Students on any campus including the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and the UB-affiliated Teaching Hospitals.


How do I use Delivery+?

Sign in to Everything Search using your UBIT Name and Password to locate materials of interest. Request options will be displayed under Get It or How to Get It. Request options may include:

  • Delivery+ Book/Media Request
  • Delivery+ Article Request
  • Delivery+ Book Chapter Request

When choosing Delivery+ Book/Media Request option, you may be prompted to choose a pickup location. You will receive an email notification when your item is ready for pickup. Materials will be available for 7 days from the day the notice is sent.


How much does it cost?

Delivery+ is a FREE delivery service for UB faculty, staff and students.


Is everything that the Libraries own available through Delivery+?

You may request any item in Everything Search that has Delivery+ request options. All Delivery+ options may not be available for the following collections:

  • Reference
  • Course Reserve
  • Special Collections
  • Circulation Desk
  • E-Books

Delivery+ article and book chapter requests that are not compliant with the Fair Use doctrine of US Copyright Law will be cancelled.


Can I request textbooks?

We are unable to supply textbooks through Delivery+. Requests for textbooks will be cancelled.


What if the material is not owned or unavailable at UB or SUNY?

Login to your Delivery+ account and submit a request. The material will be requested through interlibrary loan from other libraries outside of UB/SUNY for you.


How long will it take to get items I have requested?

Please expect a significant increase in turnaround time for Delivery+ requests due to quarantine periods, limited on-site staffing, and reduced delivery schedules.

Books or A/V at UB: 3-7 business days or longer depending on delivery schedules for items available at UB Libraries.

Books or A/V not available at the UB libraries: Often 7-10 business days for items unavailable at UB Libraries but may take up to 6 weeks for high demand or rare items.

Journal articles or book chapters at UB:  3-7 business day for items available UB Libraries.

Journal articles or book chapters not available at UB:  3-7 business days for items unavailable at UB Libraries but may take longer depending on lending institutions availability


Where can I pick up or have Delivery+ materials delivered?

Materials may be picked up at Abbott, Law, or Lockwood libraries during open library hours or at the self-serve lockers in Lockwood or Diefendorf. Materials will be available on the Delivery+ hold shelves in the Libraries for 10 days and available in the lockers for 5 days past the day of notice. Items picked up at the lockers are automatically checked out to your account. You may check out items from the hold shelf using your personal device via the UB Libraries app or by using the self-check kiosk located in Abbott or Lockwood library.

Students may choose to have materials sent to the local or permanent addresses by choosing ‘Local (student)’ or ‘Permanent (student)’ under Pick Up location on the Request form in the catalog. See the registrar’s website about student addresses for more information.

Faculty and staff may choose to have materials delivered to their official campus office or their home address by choosing ‘Office (Faculty)’ or ‘Home (faculty)’ under Pick Up location on the Request form in the catalog.


How can I return library materials?

All UB library materials coming due will be automatically renewed. If you have overdue or Interlibrary Loan materials on your library account, you may choose to renew them manually via MyAccount or by contacting Delivery Services at libdelivery@buffalo.edu.

Library materials may be returned:

  • At any library book drop located:
    • Outside of Lockwood Library facing the Alfiero Center on Putnam Way.
    • At the main entrance of Lockwood Library on the 2nd floor. You will not have to enter the library.
    • Outside of Abbott Library facing the Diefendorf Loop.
    • Outside of the Law Library in O’Brien Hall.
  • Drop off materials at any SUNY Library. These items will be returned to UB Libraries on your behalf.
  • Mail to: University at Buffalo Delivery Services, 235 Lockwood Memorial Library, Buffalo, NY 14260.
    • If returning through Campus Mail, please make sure materials are wrapped or in the reusable bag and clearly addressed to: Delivery Services, University Libraries, 235 Lockwood Library

I can’t return my book, will I be fined?

No overdue materials will accrue fines or be billed as lost.

We are automatically renewing materials and suspending library fines until further notice.

If you have questions or are experiencing a problem with your library account regarding fines, fees, or renewals, please email libdelivery@buffalo.edu.


Can I submit Delivery+ requests for a professor?

Your professor must make their own Delivery+ requests. You may borrow and return Delivery+ items on behalf of your professor if you have a proxy account.
