Loansome Doc is the National Library of Medicine's document ordering service which is offered through PubMED and NLM Gateway.

It allows you to tag the articles you want to order as you review citations from a search done on PubMED or NLM Gateway. You then select to have this information routed to the Health Sciences Library at the University at Buffalo (HSL). If HSL owns the material you want, our staff will copy the article and send it to you. If we do not have the article in our collection, and you have indicated that HSL should obtain the article from another library, we will automatically transfer your request. The lending library will copy the article and send it back to HSL. We will then send the article to you via the indicated delivery option.

Please note that Loansome Doc only provides for the delivery of articles, not books. For book loans please contact us for more information, or contact your local library for interlibrary loan options.

If the item requested is in our collection, we strive to copy and send the article to you within one working day of the time we receive your request. Please note that our office is not open on the weekend.

If the item requested is not in our collection, we will request the item from another library within one working day. Other libraries take up to two weeks to fill requests, with an average turnaround time fo 4 to 5 working days.

If you have not received your request within two weeks, please call us and we will confirm the status.

You may call to cancel a request within one working day depending on the status.

If the request has already been copied or transmitted to another library, we may not be able to avoid charges.

Upon receipt of your completed contract, we will forward to you our library identification code (LIBID). After receiving this code, you can complete your profile and begin ordering documents.
