Finding Newspapers in BISON

When searching for a known newspaper, do a title search in BISON omitting any initial article (A, An, The).

Example:
times of india for The Times of India
nacion for La Nacion
zeit for Die Zeit

Be sure to check the Check Availability link to see if we own the issue you need.

If you don't find the issue/date for your newspaper title in UB Libraries Catalog, look at the record to see if the newspaper has had a title change. If so, you may find another record(s) with additional holdings by searching the other title. The following wording may indicate that there is another record for a title: Continues (indicates former title), Continued By (indicates newer title), Relationships, and Other Titles .

Example: Buffalo Evening News , Continued By: Buffalo News

When searching for a newspaper from a particular location , try this:

  • Select the Journals tab. Then select Expert as your search type. Enter WPL= (enter the location) and WSU=newspapers. This stands for "keyword in the place of publication and the word newspapers in the subject field."
    Example: WPL=buffalo and WSU=newspapers

It may be necessary to broaden the geographical term from city to state, province or country.
    Example: WPL=erie and WSU=newspapers
