IRISH FOOTBALL
A FREE FIGHT

Plenty of Slugging in the Game
in the Stadium Yesterday—Other Games.

The Irish sports in the Stadium have been so carelessly managed that they attracted but little interest yesterday. The races are slow, and the entries in most of the events have dwindled almost to the vanishing point.

The feature of yesterday's programme was the game of Irish football, 15 men to a team. For roughness it has got the regulation college game scraped to a polish. Black eyes, bloody noses and cracked heads were much in evidence by the time the first half was over. The game resembled a free fight more than anything else.

In the second half, with the score at 3 to 2 in favor of the Kickhams, the O'Connells quit at an alleged wrong decision of the referee. The latter allowed the score to stand at the figures named. The same teams are scheduled to play tomorrow, if they can get patched up in time. Yesterday's summary:

Event No. 1, 220-yard run—Won by G. M. Hall, Buffalo Central Y. M. C. A.; J. T. Mahoney, Knickerbocker A. C., New York, second: W. H. Leahey, Mount Pleasant, Mich., third. Time, 23 3-5 seconds.
