InfoPass Program -- Library Privileges

What is it?

The InfoPass Program (formerly the Library Access Program) allows individuals affiliated with participating Western New York libraries to have reciprocal library privileges. A list of participating libraries is available at WNY Library Access Guide: InfoPass Program (PDF). SUNY universities and colleges have their own library privileges program. See: SUNY Open Access.

How does it work?

If you want to request library privileges at a Western New York library which participates in the program, obtain an InfoPass at your library before going to the other library.

UB students, faculty, and staff can receive an InfoPass at any UB Libraries' Circulation Desk provided they are in good standing.

Non-UB library card holders from participating Western New York libraries obtain an InfoPass from their home library and then bring it to the Circulation Desk of any unit of the UB Libraries to receive a Courtesy Borrower / Library Research Station Access Card (blue card).

What services does it provide?

Many participating libraries allow InfoPass card holders to borrow books and other materials, while others permit on-site use only. It is recommended that you call ahead to determine what restrictions apply. Note that the InfoPass Program does not confer Interlibrary Loan privileges or allow remote use of library databases licensed for specific institutions.

Guest users of the UniversityLibraries may print from the library research stations at the cost of 10 cents per page. Printing requires the use of a Print/Copy Debit Card. The document iprint@ub for Non-UB Library Guests has full instructions.

What are the borrowing policies?

For UB students, faculty and staff going to another library:

  • InfoPass card holders are entitled to the same use of the collection as the library offers its own community.
  • Books may be borrowed subject to the restrictions of the host library.

For InfoPass card holders from another library visiting UB:

  • Loan period is 4 weeks
  • Use My Library Card to renew online on or before due date.
  • Up to 25 items can be checked out at one time
  • Overdue fines: 50 cents per day, per item with a maximum of $10
