Publishing @ UB

Interested in launching an online, open-access journal? Publishing a print journal and interested in moving it online? Already publishing an online journal, but looking for some help?  Read on to see if Journals @UB is the solution for you!

What is it?

Journals @UB is a new platform on which UB scholars (students, faculty and staff) can publish peer-reviewed, open-access, online journals.  The platform represents a collaboration between the UB Libraries and the UB research community, created to facilitate the dissemination of UB’s scholarly output.  Our overriding goal is to make open-access, online publishing simpler for UB scholars.

Why publish your journal with Journals @UB?

All journals published on the Journals @UB platform are freely available to readers on the Internet (open access) and can enhance the visibility, reach, and impact of your publication.

  • Eliminates the high cost of print journal publication and distribution.
  • Allows easy collaboration among authors, editors, and reviewers regardless of location.
  • Incorporates innovative and sustainable technologies to speed and facilitate scholarly publishing.

What can we offer?

The UB Libraries will work with you to set up the journal on the OJS platform while you will retain management and control of content, editorial processes, and peer review. Here are some ways we may be able to assist you:

  • Free server space.
  • Maintenance and updating of the underlying Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform.
  • Help setting up a new journal or transferring an existing journal.
  • Design and formatting assistance.
  • Long-term, sustainable preservation of your journal’s content.
  • Digitization of your journal’s back issues.
  • Obtaining ISSN’s (International Standard Serial Numbers) and DOI’s (Digital Object Identifiers).
  • Assistance with getting journal content indexed.

For more details regarding what we can offer, please read our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) [pdf].

Why Open Journal Systems (OJS)?

Journals @UB uses the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform developed by the Public Knowledge Project to manage the creation and publication of scholarly, peer-reviewed journals.  More than 11,500 journals use OJS as their publishing platform. Features of OJS include:

  • Online author submission.
  • Blind, double-blind, or open peer-review processes.
  • Online management of copyediting, layout, and proofreading.
  • Management of publication schedule and ongoing journal archiving.
  • Customizable presentation features.
  • Support for a variety of reader tools, such as RSS feeds and share buttons.

How can I get started?

If you are interested in publishing on the Journals @UB platform, please contact Charles Lyons (cflyons@buffalo.edu).
