You may download the files for our new WindowsTM version of the label program, DOCS 2000
Here is some feedback about the new program.
As we've said before, those who prefer to continue using the original program may do so at they're pleasure, while those who would like to give the new program a try will have the opportunity very, very soon.
The program opens, just like any other basic Windows program, but will have a "File Box" showing the drive your in, your directories, and the files in the folder you have open. To see how the "opening window" will look, click here.
The really neat thing about this new step is that you'll be able to save many different shipping lists as HTML files (with 3 character .htm extensions), in just one visit to our web site. You can run the program and print the labels, save to a file for printing labels in a wordprocessor, or save a shelflist for each file you downloaded by just clicking your mouse.
This new product is being developed on a PC with Windows NT 4.0 and has been written in VisualBasic 3.0. We're optimistic that it will function with Windows 3.x and Windows 95 (hopefully Windows 98 and beyond, as well). When we do release it, we would very much like you to respond with any comments or issues that arise. While we can't promise to solve everything, we will always continue in the tradition we have established, which is to do our best to serve your needs.
The Federal Depository Library Program has begun to release shipping list files for the year 2000. They have had the foresight to make some changes in how the data in those files is input. The actual file "names" retain the same 7 digit format (e.g.. 000237p.dbf), with the first 2 digits representing the year (i.e. Year 2000 = 000237p.dbf)
The paper copies of shipping lists you receive with depository shipments have the 4 digit year on the top. We are maintaining that style in our drop-down for your convenience (e.g.. 2000-0237-P), but the HTML file that matches that shipping list will be 000237p.html. Just be aware that for shipping lists available in the year 2000 pull-down menu, the selection will have the style "2000-0000-P". The 1999 & 1998 lists will remain the old "99-0000-P" style.
Something you'll notice immediately will be that each format, (Electronic ; Paper ; Microfiche ; Separate), will have a pull-down menu for each year. This should speed your searching and scanning dramatically. We hope this proves to be a great improvement for you and would appreciate that you e-mail any problems or issues with this to Tim McCarthy (tmmc@buffalo[DELETENOSPAM].edu)
As always, thanks for taking the time to read this, and now back to the Enhanced Shipping List site.
