June in Buffalo is a week long series of concerts, workshops, and lectures for young, "emerging" composers. It was first created in 1975 by composer Morton Feldman. It was presented 1975-1978, and again in 1980, with a year off in 1979 when Feldman was on sabbatical When David Felder was hired in 1985 he was charged with reviving June in Buffalo. He was an excellent choice to do so, having previously established a very similar Composer's Seminar at California State University, Long Beach. Felder successfully created the "new" June in Buffalo in 1986 and it has run every year since then. |
