IX.B.3.

IX.B.3: Miscellaneous Manuscripts: Dubliners:
Typescript of French translation of "Araby" (1926)

Material Description and Collation: The manuscript consists of 9 loose sheets of off-white typing paper that are double-spaced typewritten purple ribbon bottom (carbon) copies, with corrections in blue and black inks, presumably in Du Pasquier's hand.

Title: Page [1] is headed "L'ARABIE. | -:-:-:-".

Measurements: The sheets measure approximately 27.8 x 20.9 cm.

Pagination: Pages [2]–[9] were numbered by the typist "-2-"–"-9-." but p. [1] is not numbered.

Contents: The manuscript is a French translation of "Araby" by Hélène Du Pasquier. See Gens de Dublin, translated by Yva Fernandez, Hélène Du Pasquier and Jacques-Paul Reynaud(Paris: Librarie Plon-Nourrit et Cie, 1926; pp. 31–41; Slocum and Cahoon D13).

Dating: "10/25 paris" was written in lead pencil at the top and "janvier" is written in black ink in the left margin of p. [1].

Other Markings: Pasquier signed the manuscript "James Joyce | Traduit de l'Anglaise | par Madame Hélène Du Pasquier" in blue ink. There are holes in pp. [1]–[8]; text is not affected by holes on pp. [1], [3], [4], and [5].

Publication: This manuscript has not been reproduced.

Notes: The edges of some pages are ragged worn with some browning. This manuscript was not listed in Spielberg.
