*V.B.15.d: Partial Duplicate Copy of the First Typescript of the "Ithaca" (17) Episode (1921):1
Material Description and Collation : The manuscript consists of 63 loose sheets of thin typing paper, including 7 blank pages (pp. [1], [12], [18], [28], [32], [42] and [56]), with no additions and just one minor correction on p. [52]. All of the pages are double-spaced typewritten purple ink bottom (carbon) copies and all the versos are blank. Pages [2]–[11] and [13]–[17] were typed by a typist on the first typewriter; pp. [19]–[27] were also typed on the first typewriter, but by another typist; pp. [29]–[31] were typed on the second typewriter; (the following section of the first typing is MSS V.B.15.f, pp. [22] and [23] and 15.e, pp. [11]–[19] and the next section of the first typescript is MS V.B.15.e, pp. [21]–[26]); pp. [33]–[41] were typed by the first typist on the first typewriter and pp. [43]–[63] were typed by the second typist on the first typewriter (see CSE 1888–1890).
Title : "Ithaca" was typed in the center of the upper margin on p. [2].
Measurements : The sheets measure approximately 27.0 x 20.8 cm.
Pagination : The typist paginated the sheets in the upper left corner; see Contents .
Contents : The manuscript consists of an incomplete carbon copy of the first typing of the "Ithaca" episode. It was prepared from the revised Rosenbach "Ithaca" I ("blue") and II ("green") copybooks: pp. [2]–[11] and [13]–[17] from the Rosenbach "Ithaca" I copybook, pp. "1"–"9" (rectos and versos); pp. [19]–[27] and [29]–[31] from the Rosenbach "Ithaca" II copybook, pp. "1"–"8" (rectos and versos); pp. [33]–[41] from the Rosenbach "Ithaca" II copybook, pp. "8"–"16" (rectos and versos); pp. [43]–[55] from the Rosenbach "Ithaca" I copybook, pp. "17"–"27" (rectos and versos) and pp. [57]–[63] from the Rosenbach "Ithaca" I copybook, pp. "27"–"32" (rectos and versos). All the text is CSE typing level B. The text on the pages is as follows:

Dating : This first typescript of the episode was prepared in October 1921 in Paris.
Other Markings : There is a note in Sylvia Beach's hand in the upper left margin of the recto on p. [1] that reads: "10 pages | with typewritten nos". The word "rien" was written in pencil and circled in pencil and "p. 658" was also written in pencil on the upper margin on p. [33].
Publication : Only pp. [2], [9], [10], [25], [31] and [39] of manuscript have been reproduced in black and white photo-facsimile on JJA 16.003, 027, 031, 067, 087 and 131.
Notes : There are between 2 and 5 triangular perforations in the left margins of all of the sheets, but the manuscript does not appear to have been actually fastened together as a single document. There are traces of metal paper clips on pp. [1], [11], [12], [33] and [63v] and water stains on p. [32]. The sheets were folded in the center vertically and horizontally.
