*VI.I.38: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans Wake Emendations and Errata: Scribal Copy of Emendations for a (Missing) Duplicate Copy of the Second Typescript of Book III/Finnegans Wake III.2–3 (1926):
Material Description and Collation: The manuscript is an advertisement for a concert by George Antheil at the Théatre des Champs-Élysées on 19 June 1926. The emendations are on the verso in Beach's hand in black ink.
Measurements: Although partially torn, the manuscript measures 13.5 x 8.9 cm.
Contents: The manuscript is an extradraft sheet that contains Beach's notes (presumably based on Joyce's instructions) to emend a missing copy of the second typescript of Book III. See FW 470.10, 470.30, 471.33, and 476.36.
JJA Draft Code: III§1A.7+/1D.7+//2A.7+/2B.5+/2C.7+//3A.6+/3B.6+//4.3+.
Dating: The manuscript was probably written in June 1926.
Other Markings: Also on the verso, Beach wrote: "115 pages typescript | commercial size | 30–34000 words | 4 consecutive pieces"; this refers to the typescript of Book III (see Beach to Marriane Moore, 12 July 1926, in Keri Walsh's The Letters of Sylvia Beach [New York: Columbia University Press], p. 110).
Notes: Joyce made the emendation on the extant pages of a copy of the typescript (BL MSS 47483 f. 183 and 47484a, f. 129; JJA 57.283 and 58.251).
