*VI.I.43: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans Wake Emendations and Errata: Emendations for a (Missing) Duplicate Copy of the Second Typescript of Book III/Finnegans Wake III.1–4 (1926):
Material Description and Collation: The manuscript is a loose sheet of rolled paper, with a watermark of an image of a mailed arm & battle-axe and below it: "FABRIQUÉ EN ÉCOSSE". Joyce used the sheet horizontally, with the perforated edge on the left hand side; the emendations are in Joyce's hand in lead pencil on the recto and verso. This manuscript is the same kind of paper as MSS VI.I.1, I.2, I.31, and VI.J.4; all were probably torn from the same or similar tablets or blocks of sheets.
Measurements: The manuscript measures 13.0 x 19.0 cm.
Contents: The manuscript is an extradraft sheet that instructs Beach to emend a missing copy of the second typescript. See FW 404.28, 406.01, 406.04, 406.07–08, 406.10, 406.21, 406.22, 406.28, 407.04–05, 465.26, 473.13, 475.04, 489.10, 523.01, and 555.12.
JJA Draft Code: III§1A.7+/1D.7+//2A.7+/2B.5+/2C.7+//3A.6+/3B.6+//4.3+.
Dating: The manuscript was probably written in September 1926.
Notes: Joyce made all but one of the emendations on the extant pages of a copy of the typescript (BL MSS 47483, fs. 55, 56, and 181; JJA 57.253, 254, and 281 and 47484a, fs. 131 and 145; JJA 58: 253 and 266); no copy of the second typescript of III.4 is known to be extant.
