VI.I.44 [VI.B.50.e]: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans Wake Emendations and Errata: Emendation for a Missing Manuscript for III.1 (Probably 1936–1937):
Material Description and Collation: The manuscript is a sheet of unlined paper, with writing on only one side of the sheet in Joyce's hand in black ink; the verso is blank.
Measurements: The manuscript measures approximately 20.6 x 26.8 cm.
Contents: The manuscript is an extradraft sheet headed by Joyce's note to a typist or printer and contains 5 emendations that are keyed to a post-transition 12 document. These additions all appear on the first set of galleys for Finnegans Wake III.1 (see BL MSS 47487, fs. 13 and 14; JJA 62.023–025; also see FW 420.20, 420.27, 420.32, and 420.36–421.10).
JJA Draft Code: III§1A.13+/B.4+/C.10+/1D.7+//2A.14+/2B.12+/2C.14+//3A.11+/3B.18+//4.8+.
Dating: Joyce probably wrote this manuscript sometime in 1936–1937.
Publication: The manuscript has been reproduced in black and white photo-facsimile on JJA 40.348–349.
Other Markings: Joyce tagged the manuscript at the top of the recto with a "D" in blue crayon, which presumably corresponds with the same tag on the addition on the missing manuscript, and an "X" in red crayon.
