VI.E.1 [VI.B.50.c]: "Work in Progress"/Finnegans Wake Manuscripts: Early Holograph Draft of "The Ballad of Persee O'Reilly" for Finnegans Wake I.2 (1927):
Material Description and Collation: The manuscript is part of a sheet of ruled music paper, with writing on only one side in Joyce's hand, written in black India ink and revised in black ink; the bottom and right edges are ragged.
Measurements: The manuscript measures approximately 17.7 x 12.3 cm.
Contents: This is a draft of the opening stanza of the ballad on FW 44.

Dating: Joyce probably wrote this extradraft manuscript in February 1927.
Publication: The manuscript has been reproduced in black and white photo-facsimile on JJA 40.345.
Notes: See the instructions on BL MS 47472, f. 222r: "insert music here" (JJA 45.0081) that refers to a later, presumably complete (now missing) version of the music.
