Giving Opportunities
Here are selected initiatives the UB Libraries are pursuing or hope to expand at this time. We invite you to select the initiative or library unit you wish to support. You can designate your gift by using the Giving to UB website.
Invest in the expansion of access to electronic information resources and public services enhanced by technological innovation. Your gifts help fund the acquisition of major digital information resources. Gifts also support such services as the popular Instant Librarian (online chat reference service) and UBdigit (digital repository for UB's image assets and legacy collections).
Enriching Collections
Traditional print collections are vital to learning, scholarship, and research in all fields. Donors may designate their gift to be devoted to the purchase of books, media, and other materials in specific subjects or disciplines. Due to the price inflation of scientific journals, at present there is a critical need to support the acquisition of scholarly books, technical reports, maps, films, etc.
Redesigning Libraries Learning Space
The UB Libraries are reconfiguring public spaces to consolidate services, provide more quiet study areas and collaborative learning opportunities, as well as to facilitate computer access and use of laptop computers. Wireless technology is now supported throughout the Libraries. Student study patterns and library use are changing as a result of dynamic information technologies and an institutional focus on collaborative learning. Naming opportunities are available for technology-enhanced instruction rooms, computer workstations, study carrels and study areas, new books browsing areas, exhibit display galleries, and service stations.
Enhancing Special Collections
The Poetry Collection hopes to augment world-renowned treasure collections by acquiring papers and manuscripts of contemporary poets, especially women poets, and also of concrete and visual poetry. Plans are being developed to redesign the Special Collections Reading Room to facilitate scholarly use of technologies integral to emerging poetic and literary forms, as well as textual study. Gifts can also support the organization, preservation, digitizing, and exhibiting of special collections. Digital reproduction of rare and fragile materials can dramatically augment access and scholarly use of such collections. The University Archives is fostering the documentation of UB's history through the acquisition, preservation, and processing of faculty papers and collections that reflect university life, and papers of prominent alumni.
Donations to the University Libraries are tax deductible.
