Isabel S. Marcus

Isabele Marcus joined the faculty of the University at Buffalo Law School in 1982.  She received her B.A. from Barnard College (1961), and her M.A. in Political Science (1965), Ph.D. in Political Science (1974) and J.D. (1975) all from the University of California, Berkeley.  Marcus' research focused on family law, domestic violence and international women's rights.  She was a co-founder of UB's Institute for Research and Education on Women and Gender, now known as the Gender Institute, and was chair of the Department of Women's Studies from 1997-2002.  In 2015, Marcus received the first Woman of SUNY Buffalo Law Award from the Women of SUNY Buffalo Law, a student organization.  That the award was given to her by students held special meaning to her.  Marcus retired from UB in 2018.
