Henry J. Richards Jr.

Henry J. Richards was born in Trinidad and Tobago and emigrated to the United States in 1956.  He earned a B.S. in Spanish and English (1959), and an M.A. in Spanish Literature and Latin American Studies (1961) from Marquette University and a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature and Latin American Studies (1964) from the University of Minnesota.  Prior to teaching at the University at Buffalo, Richards held positions at the University of Toledo (Ohio), Queens College (New York), and Buffalo State College.

Henry J. Richards joined the faculty of the UB in 1971 as an associate professor of Spanish and he was promoted to full professor in 1980.  During his tenure at UB, he held a number of administrative positions including Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs (1971-1976) chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures (1992-1998) and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences.  He retired from UB in 2000.
