Find Materials

Finding library materials in a large academic research library can seem daunting at first glance, but the UB Libraries have a variety of helpful tools that you can use to search our vast array of digital and print resources. When searching, if you don’t get the results you expect, ask us for advice.


  • Everything

    The Everything search engine provides a Google-like experience, allowing researchers to use one search box to discover and request reliable library content including materials owned by UB and other SUNY campuses and articles and other online resources owned by UB. Researchers can search across UB and SUNY resources within this single interface or opt to search only UB materials by selecting Everything UB.

  • Catalog

    The Libraries’ Catalog contains over 4 million records for print and online materials owned by all of the UB Libraries. Materials include: books, journals, newspapers, conference Proceedings, sound & video recordings, government documents, maps, archival collections, musical scores and more.

  • Databases

    Library databases can be used to find articles in journals, magazines, newspapers and books. Databases are provided for academic research by current authorized University at Buffalo UB faculty, students and staff only

  • Journals

    Access 150,000+ journals in physical and electronic format. You’ll find scholarly, professional and trade publications as well as popular magazines.

  • Course Reserve

    To ensure that all UB students have access to course-related materials, instructors often place items on Course Reserve through the UB Libraries. Course Reserve items may include books, videos, textbooks, e-books, journal articles, book chapters, recordings and other materials.

  • Streaming Media

    A guide to selecting and using streaming video and audio resources available through the University at Buffalo Libraries.

  • Off Campus Access

    UB students, faculty and staff have off-campus access to many databases and e-journals.
