UB Libraries Announce New Databases

The University Libraries is pleased to announce six new databases now available to UB faculty, students, and staff.

AccessEngineering provides access to interdisciplinary engineering information, as well as tools for analyzing information and assisting with the learning process. Included in the content are eBooks, manuals, handbooks, and exam prep materials; graphing tools; case studies; material information and calculators; problem sets; instructional videos; and much more.

AccessScience provides access to interdisciplinary engineering information, as well as tools for analyzing information and assisting with the learning process. Included in the content are eBooks, articles, biographies, briefings, news, and more.

Queer Pasts is a collection of primary source exhibits for students and scholars of queer history and culture. This database seeks to broaden the field of queer history, including projects that focus on the experiences and perspectives of under-represented historical groups, including people of color, trans people, and people with disabilities.

Women and Social Movements in the United States, 1600-2000 is organized around the history of women in social movements in the U.S. between 1600 and 2000, this collection seeks to advance scholarly debates and understanding about U.S. women’s history generally and at the same time make those insights accessible to teachers and students at universities, colleges, and high schools. It also includes book, film, and website reviews, notes from the archives, and teaching tools.

Archives of Sexuality & Gender, Part 3: Sex and Sexuality, 16th Century to 20th Century is a major collection of rare and unique primary source material in sex education, erotica, medicine, and sexology from the 16th to the 20th centuries, and contains over 5,000 monographs that provide context to the twentieth-century materials covered in Parts I and II. The digitization of this collection is of immense historical and research value, providing perspectives on history, society, social mores, and changing views of sexuality. With a date range spanning most of the modern age, the collection examines patterns of fertility and sexual practice, prostitution, religion and sexuality, the medical and legal construction of sexualities, the rise of sexology, and more.

Statista is an online portal for statistics, which makes data collected by market and opinion research institutes and data derived from the economic sector, and official statistics available in multiple languages. Its platform contains over 1,000,000 statistics on more than 80,000 interdisciplinary topics from more than 22,500 sources and covers 170 different industries. Statista also boasts an impressive library of infographics on relevant topics.
