From e-journals and databases to digital and physical collections, the University Libraries offer an expansive range of resources for students, faculty, staff and alumni to explore.

Nancy Babb, Discovery Services librarian and Electronic Resources Team coordinator, recently pointed out that holding a digital library card from the New York Public Libraries (NYPL) opens access to numerous resources unavailable through UB Libraries. The NYPL offers generous eligibility requirements: anyone 13 or older who lives, works, attends school, or pays property taxes in New York State can apply for a library card.

Explore some of NYPL’s unique offerings:

  • Flipster, a digital magazine platform with titles like The New Yorker, Time, Atlantic Monthly, Mother Jones, National Geographic, Newsweek, and Wired.
  • Libby, A free app for borrowing e-books, audiobooks, and magazines from public libraries. Users can search and borrow across libraries by linking their Buffalo & Erie County Public Library (BECPL) and Nioga Library System accounts with NYPL.
  • PressReader, Access to a wide selection of magazines and newspapers, including Rolling Stone, Vogue, Forbes, USA Today, The Boston Globe, and The Guardian.
  • Projectr, A curated database of independent films available for streaming with an NYPL card.
  • SimplyE, NYPL’s customized e-reader app featuring OverDrive, cloudLibrary, and other e-resources. This free app offers thousands of titles, staff recommendations, and e-books in multiple languages.
  • Databases that are not available at UB, such as NoveList Plus and LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com).

There is so much to uncover — check out NYPL’s website for e-books, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, music, movies and more!
