1965-1966 Buffalo Bulls Basketball Season

The 1965-1966 Buffalo Bulls basketball season was Len Serfustini’s 10th year as head coach of the basketball Bulls. The Bulls upgraded their schedule to include 3 teams with “major” classification in basketball: Syracuse, Kent State and Penn State. Cornell, also a major, was originally on the Buffalo schedule but the game was cancelled due to a snowstorm.
Season highlights included a 73-70 victory over Akron, ranked third nationally among the small colleges at the time. Harvey Poe hit a fantastic 12 straight from the field on his way to a 29 point performance over unbeaten Akron as the Bulls avenged the previous season loss to the Zips in the final of the NCAA College Division Regional in Akron.
Buffalo finished the 1965-1966 season with a 14-8 record. Harvey Poe, a 6-0 senior guard from West Orange, N.J., led the Bulls in scoring. Bill Barth, 6-5 senior center from Fredonia, N.Y., was chosen as the Most Valuable Player. Barth led the Bulls in rebounding and was second in scoring despite missing the last two games of the season because of illness.
