Third Part of the Printers’ Copy of the Typescript (with First and Second Overlay) of the "Circe" episode for Ulysses
Material Description and Collation
The manuscript consists of 28 sheets of thin typing paper. All of the pages are doubled-spaced typewritten black ink bottom (carbon) copies, except pp. [6]–[9], [12], [15]–[20], [23], [24], [27] and [28], which are purple ribbon top (original) copies; all the versos are blank. There are corrections and additions in Joyce’s hand (and in a few instances in Sylvia Beach’s hand, presumably based on Joyce’s instructions) in black ink on all of the pages, except on pp. [1], [6], [7], [8], [15] and [25].
Measurements
The sheets measure approximately 27.0 x 20.8 cm.
Pagination
The sheets were paginated "54a)", "55)"–"78)", "78a)" and "79)" and "80)" in the lower left margin in lead pencil, possibly by Joyce, and they are also stamped "55"–"82" in the upper right corner in black ink .
Contents
The manuscript is a typescript of the "Circe" episode, comprised of mixed top and bottom copies of what were at least 4 complete typescripts (a top copy and 3 bottom copies), of which 3 partial, other copies survive (Buffalo MSS V.B.13.e, 13.f and 13.g). This part of the typescript was prepared directly from the Rosenbach manuscript (faircopy) version of the episode (see CSE 1884–1885). The typescript was revised by Joyce, who also made most of these same emendations on the corresponding pages of the other copies of the typescript and then he further revised only this copy. This copy of the typescript is continued from MS V.B.13.h.2 and on MS V.B.13.h.4. The text on the pages is as follows:

Other Markings
The printers wrote " Plac 53 " on p. [1] and " Plac 54 " on p. [13], both in the upper left corner in blue crayon. There are printers’ signatures on pp. [2], [6], [10], [14], [18], [21], [24] and [28], printers’ markings on all of the pages in lead pencil, except on pp. [1], [7], [9], [11], [12], [13], [18], [19], [20] and [22], and in purple ink on p. [24] and black ink smudges on pp. [2], [3], [6]–[9], [13], [15], [19], [20], [26]. [27] and [28].

Notes
There are 2 perforations in the left margin of each sheet, where the sheets were once fastened together. The sheets were folded horizontally in the center.
