Mikhashoff (Yvar) Photograph Collection, circa 1930-1993 (Mus. Arc. 1.5)

The collection contains 423 indexed images and approximately 350 additional, un-indexed snapshots. The images include publicity shots, professional photographs and snapshots of Mikhashoff in rehearsal and performance, and snapshots from some of Mikhashoff's travels. Other people included in the images include noteworthy performers and composers, such as Aaron Copland, Virgil Thomson, Sylvano Bussotti, Henri Dutilleux, Giacinto Scelsi, Toru Takemitsu, Frederic Rzewski, Luis de Pablo, Henry Brant, John Cage, Milton Babbitt, Conlon Nancarrow, Nils Vigeland, and Poul Ruders.

The Jan Williams Collection of Images contains images of various performances and trips made by Jan Williams with accompanying performers and composers. An original gift was received of 321 prints and contact sheets and 54 35mm slides in 2007. An additional gift was received of 173 photographs in 2008.

Gearhart (Livingston) Collection of Photographs, 1896-1949 (Mus. Arc. 23.3)

The collection contains 108 photographs from the personal collection of composer, arranger, and pianist, Livingston Gearhart. They include photographs of Nadia Boulanger and her summer class of 1938, Gearhart and his first wife, Virginia Morley at Mills College in California, with composer Darius Milhaud and his family, and the Budapest String Quartet. The collection also includes four photographs of composer Johannes Brahms in 1896.

Seventeen black and white photographs of storefront churches in Buffalo including interior shots during services and exterior shots of the buildings. This small collection chiefly focuses on the musical activities during the church services.

The Barbara Ann Conlogue Collection of Eleanor Steber Photographs and Clippings, circa 1935-1990 contains 383 images and eight clippings documenting the life and career of soprano Eleanor Steber. The collection includes stock publicity photographs, but is special for the many informal snapshots of Steber at various functions throughout her career. The snapshots include photographs of a television screen during broadcasts of Steber performances.

Smit (Leo) Slide Collection, circa 1966-1991 (Mus. Arc. 6.4)

The Leo Smit Slide Collection contains approximately 13,705 35 millimeter slides taken by American composer, Leo Smit. The contents include images of notable musicians, images used in his lecture recitals, and images taken during his many journeys in the United States and abroad, including Central and South America, Italy, and various other European countries.


Chouinard (Joseph) Collection of Images, circa 1928-2006 (Mus. Arc. 71.2)

The collection contains 227 images collected by Joseph Chouinard. The images provide documentation of his life from the age of about two years through age eighty. The collection contains images of his performances with opera companies in Maine, Binghamton, Buffalo, and elsewhere. The collection also contains images from the fourteen months Joseph Chouinard spent as a member of the United States Navy on Okinawa.


Music Images from the Pan-American Exposition, Buffalo, 1901 (Mus. Arc. 8)

The 50 images in this collection include scenes of music venues at the Pan-American Exposition held in Buffalo in 1901, including the Temple of Music, the Midway, and bandstands. The collection also contains images of musicians who performed at the Exposition and musical instruments used at the Exposition.
