February has been recognized as Black History Month in the United States since 1976 when President Gerald Ford called upon the nation to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
This annual celebration acknowledges the contributions and achievements of African American individuals, as well as their struggles for freedom and equality.
In honor of Black History Month, the University Libraries present a collection of titles to celebrate the significant impact African-Americans have had on our country and culture.
