The University Libraries’ Student Library Engagement Workgroup (SLEW) invites all UB students to join our Spring Book Club. Students who register by March 10, 2023 will receive a free copy of Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram, the book selected for discussion. As part of the registration process, students will vote on their preferred meeting time, and once the results are in, details regarding date, time and location of the book club’s meeting will be shared with participants.
Darius the Great is Not Okay is an award-winning novel which follows the journey of an Iranian American teenager who is struggling with clinical depression and having difficulty finding his place in the world. It weaves together the reality of living with mental illness while also dealing with themes of identity, friendship and self-acceptance. Mental health is a critical topic for students at UB, the book club will give students a chance to meet with peers and discuss positive depictions of mental health in media.
