Iraq: Records of the U.S. Department of State, 1888-1944
Iraq, from Ottoman rule through British colonial occupation and independence, is treated here from the perspective of the United States. The documents are sourced from the Central Files of the General Records of the Department of State. The records are under the jurisdiction of the Legislative and Diplomatic Branch of the Civil Archives, National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, D.C.

By tracing events in the nineteenth century this archive places more recent events, such as the coup that toppled the Mossadegh government in 1953, in vital historical context. Records of the Persian Gulf War
This collection contains materials related to the diplomatic and military response by the United States (as part of a multi-national force) to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990. The Staff and Office Files contain correspondence, memoranda, and publications maintained by individual staff members and offices. A significant amount of material in this collection consists of files of the National Security Council (NSC). These documents deal with topics such as: the inspection and elimination of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction; diplomatic efforts to create the Gulf Coalition; US policy towards Iraq prior to the conflict; U.S. efforts to assist Kurdish refugees; and military operations in the Persian Gulf Theatre.
