A new publication, “Teaching and Collecting Technical Standards: A Handbook for Librarians and Educators,” is now available from Purdue University Press. Co-authored and co-edited by UB librarian Erin Rowley, the head of Science and Engineering Library Services, “Teaching and Collecting Technical Standards: A Handbook for Librarians and Educators,” provides background information for librarians and other educators on technical standards, best practices for standards collection development, and case studies of standards instruction in many disciplines, including engineering, business, and law.
Rowley along with co-authors Chelsea Leachman, science and engineering librarian at Washington State University; Margaret Phillips, engineering information specialist and associate professor in Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies; and Daniela Solomon, research and engagement librarian at Case Western Reserve University, demonstrate how standards information literacy can meet or enhance the educational outcomes required by higher education accrediting bodies through a series of case studies, demonstrating the integration of standards education in a variety of engineering disciplines, health sciences, business, and law. In addition, UB Sciences Librarian Amanda McCormick is a guest author for “Teaching and Collecting Technical Standards: A Handbook for Librarians and Educators.”
The book is published through Purdue University Press as part of the Purdue Information Literacy Handbooks series and is available for purchase and free download. Receive 30% off the retail price when you order directly from Purdue University Press and use the discount code PURDUE30.
