The Poetry Collection’s 2023 Dr. John Bishop Memorial Visiting Scholar was Dr. Shinjini Chattopadhyay.
Dr. Chattopadhyay is an Assistant Professor of Modernism at the Department of English and Comparative Literature in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her PhD at the Department of English, University of Notre Dame, IN, US, with minors in Irish Studies and Gender Studies. She completed her MPhil and MA in English Literature from Jadavpur University, India. She works on British and Irish modernisms and global Anglophone literatures. Her monograph-in-progress, “Plurabilities of the City,” investigates the construction of metropolitan cosmopolitanism in modernist and contemporary novels. She is the author of several book chapters and journal articles which have been published in James Joyce Quarterly, European Joyce Studies, Joyce Studies in Italy, Modernism/Modernity Print+, Finnegans Wake: Human and Non-Human History (Edinburgh UP, 2024), Ethical Crossroads in Literary Modernism (Clemson UP, 2024), and elsewhere. She serves on the board of trustees of the International James Joyce Foundation and on the Executive Board of the American Conference in Irish Studies (ACIS).
