Katelyn Kardaman

Before joining the University at Buffalo, Katelyn Kardaman built an impressive digital communications career, working at Canisius University and the Buffalo Sabres. Now, as the new web content specialist for the UB Libraries, she’s eager to channel her experience into enhancing the Libraries’ social media and web presence.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the team here at UB,” Katelyn says. “The Libraries offer such a vibrant environment, and working alongside such talented people is exciting. I’m looking forward to helping the Libraries connect with students, faculty and staff through engaging web content and social media.”

Born and raised in Williamsville, NY, Katelyn was introduced to the world of libraries at an early age. While growing up, she became an avid reader while visiting public libraries across Western New York. A standout athlete, she played field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse, but her passion for communication shaped her career. After earning a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from SUNY Buffalo State, Katelyn pursued a master’s degree in sport administration at Canisius University while gaining valuable experience in athletic communications.

Katelyn’s career highlights include her work with the Buffalo Sabres, where she fulfilled a childhood dream of becoming the team reporter. Her time with the Sabres, managing social media accounts, creating digital content, and working with media relations, gave her valuable experience in a fast-paced, high-profile environment. But after years of working in professional sports, she was ready for a new challenge.

“Sports is an incredible industry to work in, but it can also be exhausting,” Katelyn says. “When I saw the opportunity to work at the UB Libraries, I knew it was the right fit. I love being part of a community where I can have a positive impact on students and help tell the stories of what the Libraries have to offer.”

In her new role, Katelyn is already busy managing the Libraries’ social media presence, leading the transition of websites to the UBCMS and being the lead admin on the LibApps suite. She’s passionate about creating content that informs and engages with the university community. From promoting library resources and events to helping students find what they need, she views her role as an extension of the Libraries’ mission to serve the university community.

“I want our social media platforms to be more than just information channels,” she explains. “I see them as resources that students can turn to for both fun and helpful content. I look forward to enhancing these platforms to increase engagement with the university community.”

Outside of work, Katelyn is a self-professed sports fan who enjoys playing pickleball, golfing, hiking, and watching her favorite teams. She also continues to coach basketball clinics, staying connected to the local community.

Reflecting on her first weeks at UB, Katelyn says, “The support I’ve received has been amazing. It’s been easy to settle in because of all the great people I’ve met. I’m looking forward to what’s next.”
