Sara Loviza

With an office tucked away on the fourth floor of Capen Hall, many of us haven’t had the chance to meet Sara Loviza, whose passion for working with people is reflected in her career in higher education. As a human resources assistant in the University at Buffalo Libraries, she collaborates with other HR team members to complete administrative functions related to student assistant appointments, reappointments, and terminations. She also monitors international student immigration statuses and provides administrative support to the HR team.

“I have always enjoyed working in higher education,” Sara says. “I like having the opportunity to make a difference in students’ lives, learn new skills, and work in a diverse community.”

Her first introduction to UB came as a student when she moved to Buffalo to pursue her education. She initially majored in business administration with a concentration in human resources but later switched to health and human services after realizing her passion for working with people. During her time at UB, she gained valuable experience through on-campus roles, including positions in Residential Facilities, the Group Legal Services office, and the Health Education and Human Services Reproductive Health Clinic. She also completed a summer internship in the President’s Office, further expanding her professional network.

“UB will always have a place in my heart,” she says. “It is what brought me to Buffalo. I am forever grateful for my UB education and network.”

Before joining UB Libraries, Sara worked as an office manager and paralegal at a law firm that specialized in advocating for libraries and cultural institutions. Her background in law and administration, combined with her strong organizational skills, made her a natural fit for her current role. She is also a notary public, always willing to lend a hand if someone needs documents notarized.

Sara enjoys the dynamic environment of higher education and the opportunity to support students in their professional growth. She is particularly excited about earning her Society for Human Resource Management Certification and has been actively preparing for the exam. In addition to her work at UB, she volunteers with the Girl Scouts of Western New York and the Niagara Erie Youth Sports Association, demonstrating her commitment to community service.

Sara is from Saratoga Springs, New York, and grew up in a family of horse racing enthusiasts. She spent many summers at the historic Saratoga Race Course. Her father even owned a racehorse that won at the track—a special memory she still cherishes. Though she has since made Buffalo her home, she enjoys returning to Saratoga to visit family and take in the area’s rich history.

“Luckily, my sister and parents still live in Saratoga, and I can visit whenever I want,” she says. “It is a beautiful area that is rich in history.”

Outside of work, Sara loves to travel, especially to the Finger Lakes for wine tasting events. She also enjoys cheering on Buffalo sports teams, reading, and spending quality time with family and friends. A fun fact? Sara has a twin sister who also attended UB and still lives in the area. The two share a love for Buffalo and all things sports—“Go Bills!”
