After more than a decade of connecting readers across the University at Buffalo community, Little Blue — the UB Libraries' popular free lending book cart — will retire on March 4, 2026.
Launched in fall 2015 and inspired by the Little Free Library model, Little Blue quickly became a fixture on the ground floor of Capen Hall, where students, faculty and staff could browse, borrow or donate books at no cost. From cookbooks to textbooks, fiction to non-fiction, the cart's ever-changing selection reflected the diverse interests of the UB community. In its own small way, Little Blue helped build a sense of community at UB, promoting literacy and a shared love of reading among all who passed by.
As Little Blue prepares for its final chapter, the Libraries are encouraging the UB community to use this opportunity to do a little spring cleaning at home. Donations of books of any genre will be accepted through Feb. 25, 2026. To donate or for more information, contact Denise Wolfe.
