Responsibilities

I believe that a statement of service should reflect the philosophy of an individual's commitment to and motivation for providing service. My service to the university, the library profession, my community, and more broadly to society as a whole and the planet we live on has been guided by a deep commitment to education, equity, access, social justice, environmental responsibility, sustainability, and stewardship. As a librarian, I believe in equitable access to information to inform, educate, and empower others, and my goal is to pro-actively apply my service philosophy as well as my education, experience, and expertise to facilitate a better and positive outcome for others. The setting of an academic library in a major publicly funded research university has provided me with the opportunity to apply my philosophy of service. I have been intimately involved in research and higher education over the course of most of my professional career, especially in STEM (scientific, technical, engineering, and mathematical) settings.  My prior experience as a research scientist in areas of toxicology and environmental health for eight years prior to my degree and 40-year career in library and information science proves invaluable insights for my role as a science librarian and information specialist. It is my mission as a member of the University at Buffalo and the University Libraries to contribute to the academic success and professional and personal growth of UB faculty, students, and staff in their pursuit of excellence in research, teaching, and learning. And I extend these aspirations to my professional peers, alumni, and members of the community-at-large in the places where I live, work, play, and serve.
