The University at Buffalo Libraries are providing EndNote citation management software to UB's academic community. The UB site license for EndNote is funded by the University at Buffalo Libraries, with partial support from the Technology Fee. EndNote software eligibility.

Installation Instructions
How to Install
- You must have administrative rights on the computer to install this software. Be sure to close all windows applications before installing EndNote.
- EndNote System and Hardware requirements are listed on the EndNote website
- Please note that some browsers may flag the program with security reminders. You may have to choose "more options" and confirm that you wish to install the program.
- If you wish to search the University Libraries catalog within the EndNote interface, you will need to use a connection file. To activate the University at Buffalo Libraries connection, go to Edit, Connection Files, Open Connection Manager. Scroll down to Univ Buffalo Libraries and put a check mark in the box.
- If the University at Buffalo Libraries filter is not appearing in the Filters menu, it can be downloaded and installed.
- Note: an older version of the connection file was called SUNY-Buffalo. This connection file is no longer active and should be replaced with the University at Buffalo Libraries connection file.
For better full text searches
To greatly improve the success rate of the Find Full-Text feature:
- Click on Edit: Preferences. Select "Find Full-text" item in left-hand column.
- Check "PubMed LinkOut" boxes (all checkboxes should now be checked)
- Insert the following URL into the "OpenURL Path" text box: https://suny-buf.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/view/uresolver/01SUNY_BUF/openurl?
- Insert the following URL into the "Authenticate with: URL" text box: http://gate.lib.buffalo.edu/login
- Click Apply, OK.
- The "Find full text" and "Find full text - Authenticate" features in EndNote will open a pop-up window prompting you to login to University Libraries services. Enter your UBIT name and password to be authenticated.
- Don't worry if EndNote displays a scripting error with "Find full text" authentication; simply accept the error and continue the process. This is a known issue with EndNote that should be fixed in a future release and is not really a problem.

Big Sur Compatibility: If you plan to upgrade your MacOS, be sure to completely remove EndNote 9 before upgrading MacOS, or you may not be able to open Microsoft Word.

- Allow the download to complete before proceeding.
- Completely Quit Microsoft Word.
- If your web browser did not automatically launch the installer, in Finder, double-click the ~.dmg file that was downloaded.
- Double click the EndNote X9 installer app to run the installer. If prompted to replace, choose the Replace option.
