Borrowing Materials
Your UB Card serves as your library card. Current UB students, faculty and staff may use their cards to check out books and other materials at any campus library.
Who May Borrow
- Active University at Buffalo students, faculty and staff may borrow materials from any UB Library.
- Your UB Card serves as your library card. A valid UB card is required to borrow materials.
- Active SUNY students, faculty and staff may also borrow materials with institutional identification.

Proxy Borrowers
Proxy borrowing is allowed with written permission from a sponsoring UB faculty or staff member. The sponsor is responsible for all items borrowed with the proxy card.
- Proxy users must submit their own Delivery+ requests.
- Sponsors can view borrowed items in My Account under “Loans.”
- Note: Proxy cards cannot be used for Interlibrary Loan. For help with ILL requests using a proxy, email Delivery Services.
Appointing a Proxy
To appoint a Proxy, you must email Delivery Services from your UB email address with the following information:
- Sponsor's name
- Sponsor's department
- Sponsor's campus or home address
- Sponsor's email address
- Sponsor's telephone number
- Proxy's name
- Proxy's length of appointment
