The University at Buffalo Libraries has launched its first-ever summer reading program: the Summer Reading Stampede, designed to keep students, faculty and staff engaged with reading, libraries and literacy throughout the summer months.
The program invites participants to complete five reading-related challenges, each tied to a different theme that reflects the values of library communities. Participants will track their progress using a challenge board available through the UB Libraries.
To help readers get started, the Libraries has also compiled a Summer Reading Stampede Recommendation List featuring titles that align with each of the five challenge categories.
“The Summer Reading Stampede is a fun and flexible way for the UB community to stay connected to the library and to each other,” said Mary Kamela, student support and engagement librarian. “Whether you’re on campus or away for the summer, the challenge is meant to inspire curiosity and reflection.”
To complete the challenge, readers must finish one task from each of the five categories and submit their completed board at either Lockwood Memorial Library or Abbott Library during the first week of the fall semester, from Monday, Aug. 25, through Friday, Aug. 29.
Everyone who submits a completed board will receive a UB Libraries swag bag. Student participants will also be entered into a drawing to win a gift card to a local bookstore. Participants must claim prizes in person.
