Mazzaro (Jerome) papers
The Jerome Mazzaro papers, 1953-circa 2023, measure 8.34 linear feet and contain Mazzaro's personal and business correspondence, manuscripts by himself and others, research materials, and a small amount of clippings, photographs, and ephemera. Jerome Mazzaro (1934-2023) was an American poet, editor, critic, translator, and professor who primarily taught at the University at Buffalo from 1965 to 1996. He published widely as a poet and critic, and also edited several periodicals, including Modern Poetry Studies (Buffalo, New York), which he founded and edited 1970-1978. Mazzaro was a noted scholar of Robert Lowell and Dante, who were both his lifelong subjects. His other academic interests included William Carlos Williams, modern and postmodern American poetry, and English Renaissance poetry.
