Millard Fillmore

The 13th President of the United States, Milliard Fillmore, was a founder of the University of Buffalo and held the mainly ceremonial title of Chancellor from 1846 to 1874. During his tenure as Chancellor Fillmore also served as Comptroller of New York State (1848-1849) and Vice President (1849-1850) and President (1850-1852) of the United States. He was the founder of many organizations in Buffalo including the Buffalo Club and Buffalo Historical Society (now the Buffalo History Museum).
In recognition of Fillmore's support of the Fugitive Slave Act, the University at Buffalo removed Fillmore's name from the Ellicott Complex in 2020.
