Rowena J. Adams Jones

Rowena J. Adams Jones Born: 1928

Adams Jones was not only instrumental in UB's community, but she also worked on many committees to help improve her local community. A member of St. Luke's African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Zion Church, she has served as the church's nursery director and its Christian Education Director, in addition to being a Sunday school teacher. She also has worked with the Buffalo and Erie County Girl Scout Council for over 25 years, serving as a troop leader and holding a number of Council committee posts.

Adams Jones has received numerous awards for her contributions to UB and to the community:

  • Outstanding Service to the University at Buffalo
  • UB Professional Staff Outstanding Service Award
  • SUNY Outstanding Award for Professional Staff
  • Appreciation Award for Dedicated Service to the Black Student Union
  • Appreciation Award from Girl Scout Council
  • Appreciation Award for Service to Buffalo Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
  • Buffalo Urban League Community Service Award
  • Delta Sigma Theta Award for 50 years of service
