A. B. Lemon's long association with UB began in 1911 when he was accepted into the School of Pharmacy.  He graduated from the UB School of Pharmacy in 1913 and received his doctorate from the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy in 1915.  Lemon returned to UB in 1916 and became a member of the faculty of the School of Pharmacy in 1917.  Throughout the 1920s and 1930s he served the UB Alumni Club as secretary, treasurer and bulletin editor.  He is credited with organizing the UB band, orchestra and glee club.  In 1936, A. B. Lemon was named Dean of the School of Pharmacy and would serve in that capacity until his retirement in 1954.  In 1950, Lemon was the first recipient of the Samuel P. Capen Award, an award established by the UB General Alumni Board "to recognize notable and meritorious contributions from alumni to the university and its family."  The University Archives holds the professional papers of A. B. Lemon, which document the growth of the School of Pharmacy and Alumni Association during his tenure at UB.
