Edmund D. McGarry

Edmund D. McGarry was born in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia in 1891.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1914 from West Virginia University and was a high school teacher from 1914-1915.   In 1918, McGarry served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, Field Artillery.  In 1921, he received his M.B.A. from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.  McGarry then returned to West Virginia University as an Assistant to the Associate Professor of Economics, where he stayed until 1927.

From 1927-1961, Edmund D. McGarry was Assistant Professor and then Professor (1930) of Marketing and Economics at the State University of New York at Buffalo.  During his tenure at UB, he received his Ph.D. from Columbia University (1931) worked in UB's Bureau of Business and Social Research (1927-1942) and was Chairman of the Marketing Department (1932-1956).

In 1961, Edmund D. McGarry retired from UB and was granted the rank of Professor Emeritus.  He died in Buffalo, New York in 1973.
