Stanley D. Travis

Stanley D. Travis was born on March 12, 1902 in Owatonna, Minnesota.  He receved his B.A. from the University of Minnesota (1924) and M.A. from the University of Wisconsin (1927), where he was also an Assistant in English (1925-1927).

Stanley D. Travis' long history with the University at Buffalo began in 1927, when he was hired as an Instructor of English.  He rose through the academic ranks, becoming an Assistant Professor of English (1935-1942) and Associate Professor of English (1942-1947).  In 1947, he became a professor of Drama and Speech and would serve as the Chair of the Department of Drama and Speech from 1947-1967.  Travis retired from the University at Buffalo in 1972 and was named Professor Emeritus.
