Melvin J. Tucker

Melvin J. Tucker was born on March 3, 1931 in Easthampton, Massachusetts.  He attended Williston Academy, the University of Massachusetts, Northwestern University, and Queens College, the latter under a Fulbright scholarship.

In 1963 he joined the University at Buffalo Department of History as professor of English and European history, and remained in the department until his retirement in 2005. 

While his research focused on Tudor history, Dr. Tucker was renowned for his study of childhood throughout history.  His noteworthy publications include "The Life of Thomas Howard, Earl of Surrey and Second Duke of Norfolk, 1443-1524, " "The Child as Beginning and End: 15th and 16th Century English Childhood," and "The History of Childhood." 

Melvin J. Tucker died on February 15, 2019 in Cheektowaga, New York.
