Bertha R. Boston is currently the Assistant to the Chairperson for African American Studies at the University at Buffalo. An Assistant to the Chairperson is expected to aid the chairperson in all tasks related to management of a particular department. These tasks can include; budgetary matters, review of administrative activities, coordination of activities and courses offered by the department, assists new faculty in becoming acquainted with the department as well as aiding older faculty with research and helps with the recruitment and hiring of new faculty and staff.

A graduate of UB's School of Management, Boston is a member of the Professional Staff Senate representing Area II. She is also Colleges and Universities Representative for the Buffalo Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Among a number of other community activities, Boston is on the Staff Parish Relations Committee and is an Executive Board Member of Ken Bailey Housing. She also is an active member of the Women's Action Coalition and the Afro American Historical Association.
