Beverly J. Paigen

Born: 1938
Death: 2020

Beverly Paigen was a well-known environmental activist who was pivotal in the fight to relocate homeowners from the neighborhoods surrounding Love Canal.  While New York State officials tried to downplay the extent of the effects of the toxic waste buried at Love Canal, in 1978, Paigen's studies showed high rates of stillbirths, miscarriages and birth defects in Love Canal residents.

A researcher at Roswell Park Memorial Institute beginning in 1960, Paigen earned her Ph.D. in Biology from the University at Buffalo in 1967.
