Harold A. Boner

Death: 1971

Harold A. Boner was born in Joplin, Missouri on January 29, 1904. He received an A.B. from Colorado University in 1928, an M.A. from Columbia University in 1930, and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1947. His teaching appointments included: instructor at the University of Richmond (1930-1934), instructor at Columbia University from 1935-1941 and assistant professor at Adelphi College (1941-1947).

Harold A. Boner joined UB's faculty as an associate professor of English in 1947, and was made a full professor in 1955.  He was a member of the Tutorial Committee, Admissions Committee, University Senate, and Publications Committee. He was President of the Buffalo chapter of the American Association of University Professors (1953-1954).

Harold A. Boner was an author and poet, and published two books: "Hungry Generations" and "The Giant's Ladder." Boner produced numerous published poems and won the Guarantor's Prize of Poetry magazine (1929) and the Van Renesselaer Poetry Prize at Columbia University. Works of Boner's include Hungry Generations (1955), a study of Malthusian theory, and The Giant's Ladder, a biography of David H. Moffat (ca. 1962), as well as other works.

He died on May 27, 1971 at the age of 67, after 24 years of UB professorship.
