Alexis De Veaux
Alexis De Veaux was an associate professor in the University at Buffalo's Department of Women's Studies. She received her B.A. from Empire State College (1976), and both her M.A. (1989) and Ph.D. (1992) in American Studies from the University at Buffalo. At the time De Veaux received her Ph.D., UB did not hire its graduates to tenure track positions. However, the Department of American Studies successfully petitioned the College of Arts and Sciences to hire De Veaux as an associate professor the department. On February 3, 1990, De Veaux was the first North American journalist to interview Nelson Mandela, the day after was released from prison. She retired from UB at the end of the 2012 fall semester.
