Niles Carpenter

In 1924 Niles Carpenter, a family sociologist and ordained minister, arrived at UB as chairman of the Department of Sociology.  Between 1926 and 1936 he helped develop the first courses and curriculum in social work offered by UB.  In 1936 the UB School of Social Work was formally established with Carpenter as its dean, a position he held until his retirement in 1956.
