David Schrim

Born: 1945

David Schrim was the was head of UB's painting program before announcing his retirement in January of 2020. Schrim received a full scholarship to the Carnegie Mell University, where he pursued his BFA in painting. Schrim then enlisted in the Vietnam War and came home in 1969. After coming home, he was diagnosed with PTSD and participated in protests against the Vietnam War. He then went to Indiana University where he received his Master's of Fine art and taught painting at the Carnegie Mellon University and lectured at various universities. In 1985, upon meeting Duayne Hatchett, the former head of the sculpting program, Schrim was propelled into a career as the head of the painting program.
