Second Part of the Holograph Scribal Transcription of the "Circe" episode


Material Description and Collation

The manuscript consists of 9 sheets of unruled paper, with ragged edges that suggest they were cut from larger sheets or a notebook, writing appears on the rectos only and the versos are blank, in the hand of another amanuensis, Cyprian Beach, in black ink, with corrections and additions in Joyce’s hand in black ink on pp. [2], [4], [5], [8] and [9].


Measurements

The sheets measure approximately 20.0 x 15.5 cm.


Pagination

The sheets were paginated "1"–"9" in the lower left margin in lead pencil.


Contents

The manuscript is a partial holograph transcription of the Rosenbach (faircopy) manuscript and of a now lost copy text. It is continued from MS V.B.13.d.1 and continued on MS V.B.13.d.3. This transcription was used as the copy text for the typescripts of this section of the "Circe" episode (Buffalo MSS V.B.13.e–h). The text on the pages is as follows:

Notes

There are 3 perforations in the left margin of each sheet, where the sheets were once fastened together, and rust traces from paper clips on pp. [1], [6] and [7] and [9v].
